User Interface Design: Camera Phone

The task for this project was to redesign a camera phone for teenagers. We covered all the different design phases in detail. For requirements gathering, we identified user needs by observing teenagers' use in a social context, did a literature review of past research, and interviewed teenagers about their cell phone and digital camera usage. We took this information and created detailed use scenarios and possible designs to a focus group of teenagers. After the focus group, we settled on a design of the form of the phone as well as the usage. We felt that the form had to feel more organic than the current phones, so we made it egg-shaped to better fit the hand. The phone had a detachable camera the size of a penny that you could attach to anything. The touch screen allowed for a bigger viewing area and we also reduced the number of external buttons. We took this design and created a physical model of it. Once that was done, we created a 2 minute video sketch to show the product in use.

A more detailed description of the stages of the project can be found on the website.
